Tooth Implants: How Long Does It Take to Get Them?

Tooth Implants are small inserts that are surgically placed inside the jawbone, beneath the gums. Most Teeth Implants are made of screws, frames, or blades. When the Tooth Implantologist finds that the implant is securely bonded to the jawbone, he is able to place replacement teeth, as well as abutments, on them.

What are they and how do they work?

Tooth Implants are created of biocompatible materials, such as titanium, and have tiny ridges and pits on their surface. This allows bone to develop so close to implants that it is able to stick to it, ensuring a secure support for artificial teeth. Fixed dentures or bridges which attach to implants can be fixed to teeth and stay in the mouth. Patients can enjoy eating and speaking comfortably.

A patient should have healthy gums and a sturdy jawbone to get treatment for teeth implants. In addition, they should also be in good general health. Tooth Implant treatment is available to any person between 15 and 17 years of age. This allows the jawbone to grow fully.

There are two kinds of Tooth Implant Systems that most implant dentists recommend:

  • Endosteal Implants: Implants are inserted directly into the jawbone, after drilling the pilot hole. After healing for a few months the abutments and prosthetic teeth are inserted into the implant.
  • Subperiosteal Tooth Implants: These implants comprise of a steel frame which is placed on top of the jawbone, just below the gum tissue. The frame is attached to the jawbone as the gums and bone heal. When healing is complete, artificial tooth posts are attached to the jawbone.

Tooth Implant Treatments: Downtime

Tooth Implants are more complex than other traditional procedures for tooth restoration such as bridges for teeth. The length of time needed to recover can vary from patient to patient. A few common variables upon which the length of time for the procedure can be affected include:

  • The density of the jawbone.
  • Health of the general population.
  • The whereabouts of the tooth that is missing in the mouth (front or rear).

While the process of placing Tooth Implants is simple but it could require several months to plan for healing, healing, and recovery. The following is an approximate timetable for an average patient:

  • Plan: During this stage the dentist performs a detailed evaluation of the patient’s oral health. The entire procedure takes around a month.
  • Insertion and care of the Implant. This stage can take anywhere between one and three days, depending on the number of teeth are placed in the jaw. This procedure involves drilling tiny holes into the jawbone, where implants are inserted and then left to heal.
  • Healing: Depending on the patient’s overall health and healing abilities the process could take anywhere between three to six months. The bone forms around the implants and bonds to the metal.
  • Final reconstruction This procedure can be anywhere between one and three days, based on how many prosthetic teeth require fitting. If your missing teeth are making you uncomfortable, the best thing to do is visit a good cosmetic dentist, who will advise you about what types of Tooth Implants will be most suitable for you and will also evaluate your suitability for the treatment.
